Locust Tree Road – Artist Statement

The photographs from Locust Tree Road Series (2016) were taken at the house in which my grandparents lived. My grandparents never changed much in the house, it pretty much looked the same my entire life.  After they passed, the house sat relatively untouched for a long period of time. To me, the house became a mausoleum.  All of their possessions were there, but they were absent.  What emotional content remains in people’s possessions after they have passed?  The decor of the 50s/60s may allow you to connect to people past in your life, and the objects they surrounded themselves with while they were alive. What will become of your possessions after you are gone?

These are my grandfather’s clothes on the back porch of the house. They remained here for a long period of time after he passed.
